One of the most difficult aspects of caring for someone who with dementia are their changes in behavior. Here are five tips that I have taught caregivers that can make a difference.
-
Try not to take negative behavioral changes personally.
-
Remain patient and calm.
-
Explore pain as a trigger for behavioral changes.
-
Don’t argue or try to convince or ask why.
-
Accept behaviors as a reality of the disease and work through the difficult moments.
